Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, said on Wednesday that petroleum products could be subject to the GST regime until states reach an agreement.
Speaking at a post-budget interactive session hosted by industry group PHDCCI, she said petroleum products could be included in the GST as long as states agree. The GST Council is scheduled to meet on February 18.
During the interactive session with industry leaders, the finance minister said the government had worked hard over the years to improve public spending, which she believed would boost growth. Sitharaman added that the government has increased capital expenditure in the recently introduced budget by 33% to Rs 10 lakh crore.
