Email fraud, also known as email scam, is a type of online fraud where fraudsters use email to deceive victims into revealing their personal and financial information or to conduct fraudulent transactions. These scams often appear to be from a legitimate source, such as a bank or a government agency, but in reality, they are fake.

Here are some do's and don'ts to avoid falling victim to email fraud:

DO:

  • Verify the sender's email address and check for any spelling or grammatical errors.

  • Think twice before clicking on links or downloading attachments from unfamiliar sources.

  • Use spam filters and anti-virus software to protect your email account.

  • Keep your software and operating system up-to-date to prevent vulnerabilities.

  • Report any suspicious emails to the relevant authorities.

DON'T:

  • Share your personal or financial information in response to unsolicited emails.

  • Click on links or download attachments from emails that appear to be from a legitimate source but are unexpected or unusual.

  • Respond to emails that threaten or pressure you to take immediate action.

  • Ignore any suspicious emails or dismiss them as harmless.
