The Online Marketplace has huge consumer base and has humongous growth potential. It has lot of benefits like timely availability, attractive offers, customer service, wide variety, shop at ease and many more but one has to be vigilant and aware of some online frauds which are getting high in numbers and so is our digital herb here to make the digital shopping risk free:


Types of Online Market Frauds:


  1. Impersonation fraud: This is when a scammer creates a fake seller profile and offers items for sale that are never delivered to the buyer.

  2. Phishing scams: This is when a fraudster sends fake emails or messages posing as a trustworthy entity to trick the recipient into revealing personal information.

  3. Payment fraud: This is when a scammer takes payment for items and never delivers them, or delivers counterfeit items.

  4. Review fraud: This is when fake reviews are posted to artificially inflate the rating of a seller or product.

  5. Return fraud: This is when a fraudster returns stolen or counterfeit items for a refund.

  6. Counterfeit goods: This is when fake or imitation products are sold as genuine.

  7. Shipping fraud: This is when a scammer takes payment for shipping and never delivers the item, or delivers an item of lower value than what was purchased.

  8. Data breaches: This is when personal information is stolen from an online marketplace's database.

It's important for online marketplace users to be vigilant and take steps to protect themselves from fraud, such as verifying the authenticity of sellers, using secure payment methods, and carefully reading product and seller reviews.


Here are some dos and don'ts to help protect yourself from fraud when using online marketplaces:

Dos:

  1. Do verify the authenticity of the seller and the product.

  2. Do use secure payment methods such as those offered by the online marketplace or a secure payment processor.

  3. Do research the seller and product by reading reviews and checking for any red flags.

  4. Do keep records of all transactions and communication with the seller.

  5. Do report any suspicious activity to the online marketplace and law enforcement.

Don'ts:

  1. Don't provide personal or financial information to anyone you do not trust.

  2. Don't send payment through wire transfer, prepaid debit cards, or other methods that offer little to no protection.

  3. Don't purchase items that seem too good to be true or from a seller with a low rating.

  4. Don't rush into a purchase without researching the product and seller.

  5. Don't ignore warning signs of fraud, such as requests for personal information, pressure to act quickly, or offers that seem too good to be true.
